Alessio Silverstrin

Born in Italy in 1973. Learned ballet from Maria Berica Dalla Vecchia in his home town of Vicenza. After he graduated from Académie de Dance Classique Princesse Grace in Monte-Carlo and Rudra Béjart School in Lausanne, he danced and worked as a choreographer with Béjart Ballet Lausanne directed by Maurice Béjart and then with Ballet de l’Opéra National de Lyon directed by Yourgos Loukos. He joined Ballet Frankfurt directed by William Forsythe from 1999 until 2002 and he has been often performing as a guest artist for The Forsythe Company.

Studied at the Music conservatory “A. Pedrollo” in Vicenza and at the Académie de Musique Prince Ranier III in Monte-Carlo. Guided by Maestro Francesco Valdambrini, he joined the composers of the new school of “Tricordale Music”. He has been extending the serial systems derived from the “Tricordale Music” and his compositions have been used in synthesis for his choreographic works as well.

He choreographed for the Festival de Cannes 1997, Ballet de de l’Opéra National de Lyon and Copenhagen International Ballet in 1998, Ballet Frankfurt and Ballet Freiburg Pretty Ugly in 2001, Cadance Festival in Den Haag in 2002 and Festival Modafe in Seoul 2003.

Since 2003 he is a freelance artist resident in Japan involved in different kinds of activities. In 2004 he has choreographed and performed for Dance and Media Japan, Intercommunication Center Tokyo, Dance Biennale Tokyo and Aichi Arts Center in Nagoya. In 2005 Aichi Arts Center in Nagoya commissioned him to choreograph, direct and perform Béla Bartók’s one act opera “Bluebeard’s Castle”. In 2005 as well he performed his work “Ritrovare/Derivare” with the Noh actor Reijiro Tsumura at the Venice Biennale, choreographed “Door Indoor” for the dance company Noism 05 in Niigata and collaborated with Michael Schumacher and the composer Thom Willems at the New National Theater in Tokyo. In 2006 he has collaborated with the sculptor Anton Himstedt in Westfälisches Landesmuseum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte Münster, presented his video dance “Map” at the Dance Camera West Film Festival in Los Angeles and at the Cinedans Film Festival in Amsterdam. In 2006 as well he choreographed in the frame of the Ljubljana Festival and performed in Korea for Seongnam Dance Festival, Daegu Art Cultural Center and Seoul Dance Biennale.

In 2007 he performed as guest dancer and worked as assistant choreographer in São Paulo with the dance company Siameses directed by the choreographer Mauricio de Oliveira and performed in the installation “Additive Inverse” by William Forsythe for the opening program of the building inside Tokyo Midtown by the Japanese architect Tadao Ando 21_21 Design Sight, in organization with The Miyake Issey Foundation. In 2007 as well he is invited to perform in China at the 4th Guangdong Modern Dance Festival, choreographed and exhibited his visual art work “Mikrokosmos” and “Andante” at Ycam Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media .

In 2008 performed in Tokyo “Transparent Labyrinth” choreographed by Akira Kasai on “The Art of Fugue” of Johann Sebastian Bach, played in performance by the pianist Yuji Takahashi. He performed “Triple-zone” by the choreographer Regina van Berkel in the frame of the Holland Dance Festival and the Steps#11 International Dance Festival Switzerland. He performed for the choreographer Dana Caspersen in the creation “Radio Mythic Theter”, a production by The Forsythe Company performed in Dresden and the following year in Frankfurt and Den Haag. At Session House in Tokyo he presented “Document”, the opening performance and exhibition of Multiform, a spontaneous dance collective directed by Alessio Silvestrin. In 2008 as well he received the commission from the Brasilian dance company São Paulo Conpanhia de Dança, to choreograph and direct “Polígono”, a work created for the opening program of the company which has been highly appreciate form the dance and music audience. “Polígono” has been choreographed on the “Musical Offering” of Johann Sebastian Bach revisited by the Brussels chamber music group Het Collectief, which has been invited jn São Paulo to play live the music in performance together with São Paulo Conpanhia de Dança.

In 2009 he directed, choreographed and composed “Kakekotoba” at the Cerulean Tower Noh Theater in Tokyo. This work, created inside the traditional Noh theater space has been based on texts excerpts from Phaedo by Plato and as well a music composition inspired by traditional Japanese Noh music which he played live on a small virginal. He created with newClear directed by the video artist and system designer Richi Owaki the audiovisual installation “Skinslides”, commissioned form Ycam Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media. He performed the insatallation piece “Monster Partitur” by Willam Forsythe for the U.S premiere at Wexner Center in Columbus, Ohio and Beyeler Fondation in Basel in the frame of the exhibition of Alberto Giacometti. In 2009 as well he performed other works form the program Focus on Forsythe in London at Sadler’s Wells, Tate Modern and South London Gallery.

In 2010 he created in Tokyo “Te no uta”, another stage work for Noh, which has been commissioned form the Cerulean Tower Noh Theater with approval of the Embassy of Poland in Japan for the commemoration of 200 years of Fryderyk Chopin’s birth. This work finds sources form music by Fryderyk Chopin, text by George Sand and Japanese Noh. In 2010 as well he performed in the frame of the Venice Architecture Biennale and in Graz at “Longing for… Symposium and Exhibition in Motion”.

In 2011 he choreographed and performed for the interactive installation “In-visible skirt & other imaginary things” by Danielle Wilde and Alvaro Cassinelli at Yebisu International Festival of Art and Alternative Visions in Tokyo, choreographed and composed “Orime no ue” for the dance company Noism 01 in Niigata and choreographed for two dancers the “44 Duos” for two violins of Béla Bartók produced by CSB International at Cradle Hall in Tokyo.
